Developing a tool to directly measure mouth rhythms using the breathing belt

Supervisor: Dr. Lei He

Summary

Mouth movements constitute the frame structure in speech production. Existing methods to collect mouth movement data include video images processing, electromagnetic articulographic (EMA) recordings, and a stand-alone piece of hardware (MARRYS cap). The first two methods are more demanding to set up and analyze, whereas the third method is not available in the market yet. In this project, we will extend the utilities of the RespiTrace breathing belt to measure mouth movement rhythms. EMA will also be used to calibrate the result.
