The Department of Computational Linguistics conducts Research and provides Teaching in the domains of Computational Linguistics, Language Technology, Phonetics and Speech Signal Processing, Digital Linguistics, as well as Computational Neuroscience of Speech & Hearing. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in different domains.

The first courses in computational linguistics were taught at the University of Zurich as early as 1984. Full degree programmes in computational linguistics have been offered at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences since 1994. In 2001, the Department of Computational Linguistics was established. Since 2017 we are united with the research group for Phonetics & Speech Signal Processing.

The department is administratively and locally located at the Department of Informatics. It is jointly supported by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics.
