Evaluation of AI-Assisted Journey Planning in the Accessibility Context

map_ai image

Summary

The goal of this project is to evaluate large multimodal AI systems (Gemini and equivalent systems) to help users with accessibility requirements to plan journeys that involve navigation in indoor and outdoor public spaces with confidence. It is important to incorporate accessibility considerations into systems from the ground up rather than try to fix this post-hoc. The results of this project will provide an evaluation framework, user studies, and best practice guidelines which can directly go into improving model capabilities. The project will include a collaboration with Google's Accessibility Discovery Center (ADC) in Zurich, where engineers, researchers and users can work hands-on on evaluating and executing AI-assisted journey plans in an accessibility context, providing an early and continuous user-feedback loop.
