Student Employment at the Department
Our department employs students in more advanced semesters as student assistants and teaching assistants. These positions allow you to gain practical experience alongside your studies and to become more closely involved in teaching and research.
Teaching assistants support courses, for example by helping students with exercises and programming assignments. Student assistants may contribute to research and development projects, including programming, data processing, experiments, and other technical or scientific tasks. Such positions are a good opportunity to gain experience in research, software development, and academic work.
Open positions are announced through the department’s usual communication channels. If you are interested in working at the department, we recommend following departmental announcements regularly.
Internships
Internships are another way to gain practical experience while you are studying. They allow you to apply your skills in a professional or research environment and to learn more about working in computational linguistics, language technology, NLP, AI, software development, and related fields.
Under certain conditions, an external internship can be credited as part of your study program. If you would like to receive ECTS credits for an internship, please consult our Internships page before starting the internship. The placement must be approved in advance.
Career Services at UZH
It is worth preparing for your transition into professional life before you finish your studies. UZH Career Services support students at different stages of this process, whether you are looking for a student job or internship, exploring possible career paths, preparing an application, or getting ready for your first job after graduation.

Networking While Studying
Meetups, conferences, and other professional events are a good way to meet people working in computational linguistics, language technology, NLP, and AI while you are still studying. They can give you insights into current developments and organizations in the field and may also help you discover opportunities for internships, student jobs, or research experience.
In Zurich, the Language AI Meetup brings together researchers, practitioners, and others interested in language and AI. We also recommend keeping an eye on events announced by the department, UZH, and the local AI and technology community.
