Scientifica 2026

From 28 to 30 August 2026, the DiLi group took part in Scientifica 2026, Zurich’s science festival run by ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, held this year under the motto “Wie wir Wissen schaffen” (“How we create knowledge”). Together with other groups from the Department of Computational Linguistics, we ran a booth in the Lichthof of the UZH main building, where each group offered a hands-on activity based on its research for visitors to try.
At our station, visitors read a short Swiss German text while an eye tracker recorded their eye movements. Afterwards, they could watch a replay of their gaze moving across the text and explore statistics about their own reading, giving a glimpse into how eye-tracking research works. We had visitors of all ages, from curious children to adults, and had many interesting conversations about reading, dialects, language processing, language models and the Computational Linguistics study program.
