New research project "Trainslate"
[28.03.2012]
The Institute of Computational Linguistics has launched a new project: The goal of "Trainslate" ("Train"+"Translate") is to build a system that automatically translates train announcements from German into Swiss German Sign Language (Deutschschweizerische Gebärdensprache, DSGS). The signed announcements are displayed in a smartphone application by means of an avatar, along with German subtitles. Each announcement will be available for a certain time so that it may be repeated. Hence, the application can be used by deaf and hard-of-hearing persons as well as by hearing persons looking for a replay functionality for train announcements.
More information about the project is available here.
