Abstract

We present Lingua-Align, a toolbox for automatic alignment of syntactic trees. Based on a binary classification model, it provides a flexible framework for feature extraction including contextual properties and implements several alignment inference procedures. A modular approach with a variety of external scripts allows easy control of various settings and constraints, conversions, support for different treebank formats and quick evaluation of results. Our experiments have shown good results which generally outperform recent unsupervised techniques.

Lingua-Align integrates well with another existing tool which can be used to quickly build training data and revise automatic output where necessary. We also briefly present the machine translation system PaCo-MT, currently under development, for which the aligner was originally built, and discuss recent extrinsic evaluations and how they impacted on our alignment strategies.
